These are useful resources for those of you learning how to use a Unix-based operating system (also Linux or OS X):
  • The Unix Shell videos and slides
  • Lectures notes (pdf files) and slides (ppt), topics are clear from file names (start with L and are numbered): look for Unix_Intro to get started
  • UNIX Tutorial (Beginner) eight simple tutorials which cover the basics of UNIX / Linux commands
  • Log into Lynda and find the "Unix for Mac OS X Users" course
    • Logging In
      1. Go to My CPP.
      2. Enter your BroncoName and BroncoPassword in the appropriate text field areas.
        1. Click the Login button.
      3. Select Lynda.com under the "Links to Other Services" section.
        1. For laptops/desktops - link is on lower, right-hand side.
        2. For mobile devices, link is near the bottom.

For beginner tutorials, please email rachelhatch11@gmail.com with the subject "UNIX, SAC, GMT Tutorials." These tutorials are set up similar to a quiz format, where each question asks for the next step, and mostly go over the basics. IRIS and Dr. Mike Brudzinski of Miami University (OH) have set up these tutorials and is allowing access to students that are interested.
